Rehabilitation - Glossary of Key Terms

BioRhythmIQ Technology: A patented technology integrated into the Stimel-03 device that captures and analyzes the user’s bio-rhythmic patterns, allowing for personalized and adaptive stimulation protocols.
Electromyography (EMG): A diagnostic procedure that measures the electrical activity of muscles and the nerves controlling them. Surface EMG, a non-invasive method, is used in the Stimel-03 to detect muscle activation.
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES): A technique using electrical currents to stimulate nerves, activating muscles to produce functional movements in individuals with paralysis or paresis.
Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES): A technique using electrical currents to stimulate muscles, inducing contractions for therapeutic purposes like strengthening, pain relief, and improving blood circulation.
Mirror Neurons: Specialized brain cells that fire both when an individual performs an action and when they observe someone else performing the same action, thought to play a role in imitation and learning.
Neural Plasticity: The brain’s ability to change and adapt its structure and function in response to experience, learning, and injury.
Visual Biofeedback: A type of biofeedback that uses visual displays, like graphs or moving lines, to represent physiological processes, allowing individuals to monitor and modify their responses.
